TJ presented his PSA research project (4.5 weeks) using the Tuning Protocol

TJ shared the packet he gives students when they start their group porject.

Research paper is first. TJ has concerns about the research paper.

Project commitment sheet
The culminating event is to create a PSA and they must commit to a portion of the project.(He is asking for a better Commitment Sheet.

He shared the rubrics and asked for help with

ATOD Research Paper used for PSA
Video Preproduction
Final PSA Video Production - watches the video and presentation with rubric
MLR Rubric
Final PSA video production ties it all together. Includes Student Group Participation grade (kids are pretty good with this but he is asking for help)

TJ's Questions

  • Research Paper Issues
    • Are the essential questions ok?
      • Brad-Have to turn in research before they can begin the essay. Need to turn in notes (materials) before they start.
      • Laura-Have them turn in the paper before putting in groups. You have laid out he packet well research expectations very well don't change. Have them fill out a daily progress report for each class. At least have them journal what they did. What about Moodle for journaling what they did that week (day)
      • Dan agreed with Laura that the daily recording of what they did would be a good thing to do. Dan mentioned that the committement sheet is only on the PSA, he suggested the research paper should be on that also "I will turn in my research paper on this date."
  • Student Involvement
    • Dan- Appreciates the skill sets this project targets (group work) You may want to spend more time talking about group expectations so when you do the assessment they assessed according to their comfort level.
    • John-When we do the SAPPI project he needs to have conferences with each group helping them facilitate within their group. He takes them to the stock room:)
    • Steve really likes the Commitment Sheet. May need to have more accountablility
    • Paul-What is your expectation for high end vs low end commitment? TJ-One person on each line of the committment sheet.
  • ** Dorothy-You may want to script out what the students need to reflect on. (Worked well together, completed
  • Self Evaluation issues
    • Absences: How does TJ have students make this up when it is a group project.
    • TJ develops groups for best performance. (4-5 students per group)

From last week

  • We will present our thoughts about pre-registration to Rick and will ask Jeanne to look at an easy way to do this in PowerSchool.
